As pop philosopher Bruno Mars, along with his fellow theorists Gucci Mane and Kodak Black once said, “Fly, fly, fly. It’s Gucci(maze).”
Now, on to a more serious note. The Seiko 5 Sports x Guccimaze Limited Edition range has just landed in Malaysia. The range consists of two variants, the SRPG65 (on sale in June) and SBSA131 (on sale in July).
It’s also limited in the strictest sense this time, guys. The SRPG65 with its blue-black bezel, dark dial and lime yellow seconds hand is limited to only 1,500 units worldwide. The white-out SBSA131 variant is even rarer. It is a boutique exclusive model and will have a production run of just 300 units worldwide.
“How much is this gonna’ cost?”
Here’s an oddity. See, Seiko Malaysia states that the SRPG65 will carry a price tag of RM2,610 but the SBSA131 is still anyone’s guess. Why? This is because despite receiving its local debut, the watch has yet to be “launched”.
Anyway, here’s a little bit of info on the artist behind the GUCCIMAZE brand.
Born in 1989 in Kanagawa, Japan, GUCCIMAZE is a Tokyo-based graphic designer. His style encompasses the use of “three-dimensional typographic forms that convey a sense of tangible sharpness, set in vivid, venomous color schemes.”
Well, I can definitely see his touch in the SRPG65. I cannot say the same for the SBSA131 with its all-white directive. Oh well, I guess this is why I’m not a visual artist.
With that said, we can see his touches on the dial and bezel of the GUCCIMAZE models. Look closer and you’ll be able to make out the deconstructed and reconstructed Seiko lettering. The GUCCIMAZE makeover extends to the clasp of the steel bracelet with a redesigned ‘5’ motif. The exhibition caseback contains the same design elements as well.
The watches come in “a special box with the same transparent sleeve design as the clasp and caseback.”
“Anything new on the technical front?”
Nope, the changes all lie on the aesthetic side of things. Buyers will get the same 42.5 mm case which houses the familiar 4R36 calibre. The 24-jeweled movement beats at 3 Hz and has a power reserve of 41 hours, give or take. As for water resistance? It’s the same 100 m figure.
“All clear?”
“Yeah, man. It’s all gucci.”
