“New boutique? New Constellation line? Manhattan?! What’s going on?”
Hakuna your tatas everyone, there’s no need for a panic attack. Recently, Omega Malaysia opened the doors to its new concept boutique located on the ground floor of The Gardens Mall. Now, while they were at it, they figured it was a great idea to unveil the newest Constellation ‘Manhattan’ ladies collection as well. You know, the whole ‘kill two birds with one stone’ ‘kill two flies with one slap’ affair.
Now, you must be wondering, “Hang on, there are several Omega boutiques scattered around Kuala Lumpur. What gives?” Let me clue you in a bit, the answer lies in the word ‘concept’. Make of it what you will but with that said, Omega Malaysia has stated that this new boutique represents a fresher take on overall customer experience. I’m not well versed in interior design but I can tell you that this new concept boutique looks a whole lot more modern compared to the other ones I’ve been to. Heck, it even looks brighter to begin with.
Inside, I did catch glances of the entire Omega collection on display as well as the aforementioned stars of the show (see what I did there?). Also, I’ve been told by Omega reps that there will be a trained technician on standby within these new boutiques. What that means is regular repairs, battery changes and bracelet resizing services are offered there and then.
Elsewhere, there’s a redesigned customer lounge/reception area for clients to chill out and try on (one too many) watches. Yours truly was definitely guilty of that as I was this close to picking up the Aqua Terra 150M in blue. No, white. Blue. No…
“See what I mean? The place is done up just right.”
I know this is subjective but the environment plays a very big role in making you (and me) feel comfortable. From my perspective, the second I don’t feel right in a showroom, I’m out. Regardless of how good the offer was or how badly I want that watch, it’s a no go. Going with your gut instinct is vital, folks. More so when there’s the possibility that you’ll be parting with a huge sum of money. You just gotta’ waltz in to the showroom and feel…
This. You gotta’ feel this.
“And what about the new Constellation ‘Manhattan’ models?”
Yeah, this one goes out to all the ladies. The new ‘Manhattan’ models are what Omega identifies as “a full makeover for the iconic Constellation timepieces.” How much of a “full makeover” are we talking about, I have no idea but we do have either Roman numerals or diamonds embedded into the bezel now. Other changes include the bracelet on the 29 mm models that have a polished “middle link.”
Upon flipping the watch over, you’ll notice a sapphire exhibition caseback that shows off the Calibre 8700. However, you only get that swanky look with the 29 mm models as they are the only ones with the automatic movement. Other variants include 25 and 28 mm cases with the Constellation Observatory medallion stamped onto the caseback.
I can’t go into the finer details of each models because well, there are 100+ variations and I’ll collapse from exhaustion getting halfway through that list. What you do need to know is this, there are three case sizes as mentioned – 25, 28 and 29 mm. The latter is the only one with an automatic movement while the other two get a quartz. Additionally, the auto models also have a date display at the 6 o’clock mark.
As for the case-bracelet combinations, there are several options available. For starters, there’s Omega’s proprietary Sedna gold, 18k yellow gold, stainless steel as well as two-tone models with a mix of both the aforementioned gold variants and stainless steel.
Last but not least, the prices. The 29 mm range begins at RM23,650 while the quartz 28 mm line up kicks off at RM18,500. Finally, the 25 mm models are priced from RM17,650. Now, there’s an idea for a Valentine’s gift…
