What Makes Us Tick

What Makes Us Tick

Who are we, you ask? What is our mission here at Centre Seconds? Why is The Man never hot?

The short story?

We have an (unhealthy) obsession with timepieces and anything that has to do with horology here at Centre Seconds. We love admiring them, writing about them and admiring them some more – which then leads us to more writing. Oh, what a cruel world we live in.

The long story?

Founded by Gregory Sze in 2018, Centre Seconds started out as a stray, (relatively) reckless thought. After over a decade as a thespian in the Malaysian performing arts scene, Greg decided to pursue his other interests by diving head-first into the automotive scene with a stint at one of the nation’s leading automotive portals.

Later on, he was appointed as the editor of a Malaysian motorcycle news website. However, he soon realised that while cars and motorcycles were nice, they emitted toxic fumes and were bad for the environment. This, in turn, prompted his conscience to grab him by the collar and told him that he needed to atone for his petrol- and diesel-fueled sins by sharing with the world his other (more environmentally-friendly) love of all things horology.

Consequently, he sat for hours on the toilet and thought to himself, “How can I share my thoughts on watches both affordable and bite-the-back-of-your-hand-expensive? Will anyone aside from my Mum listen to my musings on horology? What exactly do people mean when they say ‘It’s just a Seiko?'”

The answer came to him as sudden as the backsplash from the toilet – and Centre Seconds was born.
